Даже если и неискренне написал, все равно, как минимум, это говорит о том, что ему в кЛубе рассказали про эту ситуацию (уже хорошо, следят за реакцией) и он, возможно, будет (ещё) ответственнее относиться к делу (тоже хорошо). Так что тут точно одни плюсы.

В клубе должны быть традиции, игрок должен знать, кто играл под 10 номером и, как минимум, выкладываться на всю мощь. Это, конечно, в моем понимании. Возможно, ему даже не рассказали об этом.

Из всех новых трансферов отмечу, что Бека Бека и Анжорин, практически сразу установили логотипы в форме Локомотива. Некий фанатизм от своей же команды, это круто!

How Rangnick persuaded Anjorin to leave Chelsea for Moscow (and why the No 10 shirt is being unretired for him)

Anyone wondering how Tino Anjorin ended up at Lokomotiv Moscow this week should note the number on the back of his new green shirt.

Lokomotiv’s No 10 had been retired since 2013 in honour of Dmitri Loskov — the attacking midfielder who played more than 400 games across three spells at the club, scoring 128 goals — and only restored for his one ceremonial farewell appearance at the end of the 2016-17 season. Sitting at the top of Lokomotiv’s all-time scoring and appearance lists, it is hard to dispute his claim to be considered the biggest icon in the club’s history, well worthy of having his number set aside forever.

But now it belongs to Anjorin. Loskov, assistant manager at Lokomotiv since his return to the club in a non-playing capacity in 2016, presented the No 10 to the 19-year-old from Chelsea’s academy himself on Friday — a gesture that underlines the club’s high hopes for their marquee summer signing, as well as the overwhelming faith that persuaded him to come to Russia.

The source of that faith is the man who first suggested giving Anjorin the No 10 shirt, and the man ultimately responsible for convincing him to join Lokomotiv: Ralf Rangnick.

Six months after turning down an offer from Chelsea to replace Frank Lampard as head coach in January, Rangnick found a lower-profile club that could help him satisfy his broader strategic aspirations. His job title at Lokomotiv, head of sports and development, is a nebulous one but upon his arrival in July, he made it his priority to steer the club’s recruitment away from fading overseas veterans looking for one final payday and towards young, emerging talent.

Rangnick signalled his interest in Anjorin early along with fellow Chelsea academy prospect Armando Broja, who quickly made it clear he had no interest in going to Russia. Anjorin was also initially unconvinced. He had one loan suitor in the lower reaches of the Premier League, a wide range of potential options in the Championship and several alternatives in more appealing European leagues. On top of it all, Thomas Tuchel had given him every indication that pre-season at Cobham carried with it a real chance to impress and force himself more fully into the first-team picture.

COVID-19 scuppered those plans. Anjorin missed Chelsea’s curtailed pre-season trip to the Republic of Ireland and was symptomatic, dealing with the virus for almost two weeks. By the time he was ready to return to training, many of Tuchel’s established internationals were back too. His fleeting window of opportunity had closed.

The moment Anjorin’s camp indicated to Rangnick that they might be prepared to reconsider Lokomotiv, he leapt into action. Over the course of a two-hour Zoom conversation he pitched the 19-year-old, talking him through every aspect of his plan to help the midfielder fulfil his potential and overcome the injuries that have slowed his development over the past two years.

Rangnick is understood to regard Anjorin as a similar level of talent and type of player to Kevin De Bruyne, a hugely gifted technician possessed of the rare ability to drive beyond opponents with and without the ball into positions where he can score or create for others. This comparison to arguably the world’s best attacking midfielder, mentioned numerous times during the Zoom call, was unsurprisingly well-received.

Tuchel made it clear to Anjorin that he wanted to keep him at Chelsea for the new season, but was in no position to guarantee the minimum of 15 to 20 first-team appearances that the player was looking for. Rangnick’s promise of a key role at Lokomotiv, as the progressive midfield hub of a team that will face Galatasaray, Lazio and Marseille in a highly competitive Europa League group in the coming months, was far more enticing.

Lokomotiv were the party in the subsequent talks that pushed for the option to buy Anjorin, set at £17 million. They can only activate it in the winter market but they have every intention of doing so. Rangnick is aware that his new signing will take a little time to get into peak shape after his illness, and took the unusual step of sending a sports science specialist who has worked with stars from track and field, the NBA and the NFL to London to sit down with Anjorin and draw up a bespoke fitness regimen.

Just as with De Bruyne in January 2014, Chelsea had no desire to sell Anjorin. Nor was there any pressing need to do so, with the player under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2025. Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has at least retained a measure of control over his future, inserting a buyback clause of £34 million that will represent good value if he reaches the lofty ceiling of his talent in Moscow.

The enduring goodwill between player and club makes returning in those circumstances a very feasible prospect, and Chelsea have already discussed what it might look like with Anjorin’s camp.

All the signs are that Rangnick would view that outcome as a success too. It would mean Lokomotiv doubling their money and Anjorin fulfilling his potential, which would help Ragnick convince Europe’s most talented youngsters that a move to Russia would be a positive step in their development. It is similar to how Borussia Dortmund use Jadon Sancho and many others as examples of what can be achieved in Germany.

For that to happen, Anjorin needs to stay fit and fully adapt to his deeply unfamiliar new surroundings. He is a confident, jovial character, and there is every chance that the experience will help him mature off the pitch as well as on it. In any case, having watched his former England youth team-mates Bukayo Saka and Mason Greenwood speed ahead of him in the senior ranks, he will surely relish finally having his own first-team stage.

It’s also clear that Lokomotiv, and principally Rangnick, will do everything in their power to help him ascend to the stardom they believe is within his grasp.
